Dubai will build a Water Canal in the desert, 75 km long and 150 meters wide:
دبي ستشق قناة مائية في الصحراء بطول 75 كيلومترا وعرض 150 مترا!
Dubai – AFP – An Emirati company said yesterday that it will build in the Emirate of Dubai during the next three years a water canal in the desert, which will be “the most important engineering project in the Middle East”, with a length of 75 kilometers and a cost of 11 billion dollars.
The canal is supposed to be 150 meters wide and six meters deep, and thus ships of forty meters in length will be able to use it. The excavation work will leave about one million cubic meters of soil and sand.
Dubai World Group affiliated to the Emirate of Dubai, quoted the CEO, Saeed Ahmed Saeed, as saying that “the project will create life in the desert,” describing it as “the most important engineering project in the Middle East, and the most ambitious in Dubai.”
The canal is part of a major project at a cost of $61 billion, which also includes the “Dubai Waterfront” project, which will extend over an area of 20,000 hectares at a cost of $50 billion and is supposed to create a new center for Dubai on Jebel Ali Beach in the south of the emirate.
The canal begins at the Dubai waterfront near the border with the Emirate of Abu Dhabi across the sands of the desert and revolves around Jebel Ali International Airport, which is being built, and returns to pour into the sea near the artificial island of Palm Jumeirah in the middle of the Dubai coast.
Saeed said that the canal will create urban and residential projects around it, in addition to public parks, marinas and centers for cultural events, all in an area that is still mostly empty and desert until now.
Dubai is seeking to strengthen its position as a global business and tourism destination.
Dubai’s record is full of projects that touch the limits of imagination, including the three artificial Palm Islands (Palm Jumeirah, Palm Jebel Ali and Palm Deira) and artificial islands that form a map of the world at sea, and a number of the tallest towers in the world in addition to the “Dubai South” projects, which will be The largest integrated tourism center in the world.
